Copy DVD to Computer which is acting as a DLNA Media Server

Many boxes you plug into your TV, including the Roku, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 offer DLNA streaming support. They can stream video files and music over the network from your PC — as long as you set up a DLNA media server first. This is a more convenient way for DVD owners to play the DVD movies without the use of DVD disc in that when they copied DVD to the computer which is acting as a DLNA media server, they can play the DVD movies from computer on HD TV via DLNA-enabled set-top box.

Setting up the computer as a DLNA media server is easier than you might think, as the server software you’ll need is built into Windows. The harder part is to backup DVD to computer in a TV/Tablet/Media Players supported formats so that you can watch the DVD movies on your devices via the computer media server freely. Now, let me show you the two parts to add DVD to computer acting as a DLNA media server in a digital version.

Just click “File”icon to load your DVD movies to the software. It supports batch conversion so you can add more than one movies at a time.

Step 3: Select output video quality

Here, you have many choices. For better video quality but smaller video size, H.265 MP4 is no doubt the best choice. For more compatibility, H.264 MP4 is definitely the one you should choose. For better DVD streaming on TV via computer, you should consider about “TVS” profile.

Tips:

1. If you wanna some advanced settings, you can click “Settings” icon to adjust the video, audio parameters bitare, frame rate, sample rate, audio channel, etc.

2. Plus, you can click “Edit” button to do some editing work cropping, trimming, settings effect, adding subtitles.

Step 4:  Start to copy DVD to computer

Click “Convert” button and the program will rip DVD movies to computer in your selected format. You can easily find the output files in the output folders once the conversion is done.

How to build a DLNA media server in Windows computer

Step 1: open the Control Panel and search for “media.” Click the “Media streaming options” link.

Step 2: Click the “Turn on media streaming” button to enable the media-streaming server. Although this Control Panel doesn’t mention the term “DLNA” at all, the media-streaming feature in Windows is a DLNA-compliant media server.

Step 3: You can now customize the streaming settings. This window doesn’t actually tell you how to add video, music, and picture files that can be streamed over the network. However, the media-streaming feature depends on your Windows libraries.

If you want to stream your DVD rips, add them to the Videos libraries. You don’t have to move the files to the current library folders — you can add new folders to the libraries. On Windows 8.1, you’ll need to unhide the libraries to access them.

You can now access the DLNA media player on your other devices. For example, if you have a Roku, you can install the Roku Media Player channel and open it. DLNA servers on your local network will appear in the list, so you can select your computer and stream the DVD rips from it.
